There are several reasons why so many brides want to choose the perfect engagement ring. They are rooted in aspects such as personal taste, style, and a desire for something unique that no other woman has. Here are the basic elements you will be able to choose from when you decide on a custom engagement ring by Jack Miller Jewelry Designers.

The Stone

The shape of the stone is always the first step when designing an engagement ring. The primary stone, or stones, is the centerpiece of the ring, and the rest of the design must be based around it. Next is the type of stone you would like. We always recommend choosing a diamond or a sapphire, as these are the hardest stones, and are perfect for everyday wear. However, we can design a ring with whatever gemstone you have in mind.

Here is a list of different shapes to keep in mind when designing:

  • Round
  • Oval
  • Princess (square)
  • Pear (teardrop)
  • Emerald
  • Cushion
  • Marquise
  • Heart

The Setting

The second step of the design process is finding the perfect setting to hold your stone. We call these parts “heads” or “mountings.” Some heads have prongs that hold the stone, while others have a thin ridge of metal surround the stone to hold it in. Each one offers a different look and feel, and one can be more ideal over another depending on your needs. You can also choose from a more modern, contemporary setting to the antique or vintage settings. A popular design today is the “halo” look, with the center stone surrounded by a row of small diamonds around it. Here is a list of the different mountings you can choose from:

  • Tiffany
  • Crown
  • Halo / Cluster
  • Bezel / Half Bezel
  • Tension
  • Channel

Color and Style

Finally we have come to the most exciting part of the design process: the style and metal color of your ring. There are many different styles we can create since all of the work is done by local artisans. We can create anything from a very sculptural, organic ring, to a more architectural, modern ring. Here are just a few of the types of styles and metal types:

  • Styles:
  • Classic
  • Vintage (actual designs from years past)
  • Antique Style (new designs meant to emulate a vintage look)
  • Modern
  • Sculptural / Organic

Colors:

  • Yellow (Gold)
  • White (Gold or Platinum)
  • Rose (Gold)

Don’t want just one color? Two-tone rings create a very beautiful, classy look and are an option as well!
